Passenger and Mail network

Network Size Matters for Passengerslink

In Simutrans, every passenger generated in a city has a specific destination they want to reach. If they can not reach that destination using your network, they will not travel with you. For that reason, small passenger networks tend to have few passengers, and not be very profitable. In order to serve more passengers, you will need to increase the size of your network. This will require a good deal of capital, and is why it is recommended that you start by transporting goods first.

About Maillink

Passengers and mail are treated similar in Simutrans. Each piece of mail has a specific destination it wants to reach, and will not travel if you do not serve its final destination.

Initial Networklink

There are many ideas on how to build an efficient network. You can run a bus (or tram) route throughout a city, collecting passengers from stops. You can have a transfer point where buses will collect passengers who goes to any desired stops. You can also have bus stops at a train station, and have trains connecting the cities. Consider connecting at least 4 cities from start. You can at least add your bus stops near factories, tourist attractions and special buildings like city hall.

The Network Growslink

As you start connecting to many other cities, tourist attractions and factories, the number of passengers wanting to travel the desired destination will grow rapidly. Be ready to upgrade capacity by adding more buses or trains. As you grow your network, remember that a passenger will take the route with the fewest transfers and passengers that are closer to their destinations will board before passengers travels the desired destination further away.

Tipslink

  1. All town halls and tourist attractions like monuments, theaters, stadiums, tennis courts, cathedrals produce a lot of passengers. Make sure to place your bus stations nearby
  2. Passengers have an idea where they want to go. If you don't offer transport to their destination, they don't show up at your stations. You can use the city info window to see where passengers from this city want to go.
  3. The more destinations you offer, the more passengers will use your service
  4. City outskirts usually produce only very few passengers. You can ignore them until the cities grow somewhat.
  5. To avoid overcrowding, add more spaces for the passengers to any crowded stations. Like adding a new station right on its side or building an extension.
  6. If you want more passengers to come, switch to "Public Service" and add tourist attractions and buildings near to your bus stops. Don't forget to switch back to your player. This is considered as a cheat, so do it only for your own leisure.
